Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Interviewed Jun 2015(took 3 days)
I am very actively interviewing recently and got a call from iCloud Team saying that it matched my profile. They send me a questionnaire to take before the phone screen which was with the manager. I filled out the questionnaire very diligently and I added very elaborate context to the relevant experience i had for the position.
I also prepared extensively for the interview. The interview day came thats when things went really horrible. It was scheduled to be at 11AM CST but I got the call only at 11.20 and after calling in she didn't even apologize for being late, As an Engineer I understand meetings can run late but all i expected was a little professional courtesy.
From the off she had a condescending demeanor about her and instead of focusing on questions about what I worked on she asked questions on the design of the technology stack which i had no control over. I kept iterating that I am a Software Engineer not an architect I only follow the spec assigned to me. In addition to that she kept interrupting me before i even finished answering the questions she threw me. I expected an engaging stimulating conversation but rather a pointy ended discussion which felt like a critical review of my work.
I asked her if she read the questionnaire i filled out for her which illustrated all the architectural overview of the application I worked on and she said she didn't have time to read it, that really was the boiling point for me because I put 3 hours in writing that document on a saturday morning. I told her I put a lot of effort on that document and the interview and I didn't want to work for someone who doesn't bother to read about the resume of the person she is interviewing and hung up.
I called the recruiter and complained about her behavior and unprofessional etiquette. The recruiter was helpless she apologized for the manager's behavior. I found this manager's behavior reflect poorly on the company as a whole because there might be better managers than her in Apple.
