Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Fri, 14 Aug 2015

Interviewed Jun 2015(took 90 days)
Got a call from the recruiter after applying three days before. Interview was a phone screening and was straightforward (Why do you want to work here? Tell me about a time when..., etc.), and provided information about the role with the company. After she put "feelers" out to stores in need of the role being filled. I got a call back a week later telling me the company decided to go with internal candidates in her region (which is respectable, because I appreciate internal employees getting the shot at promotion over external hires). I was told to reach out to her with questions and that I could contact her at anytime, and that she would let me know if any opportunities would arise later. After calling her twice, sending an email, and two text messages over a two month period, I never received a call back or response about new positions I wanted to inquire about within her territory, but she would still post jobs on LinkedIn and other forms of social media. I decided that Apple was no longer interested in me (I am a recent AACSB MBA graduate, with over ten years experience selling electronics, phones, and computers to consumers and businesses, and three years as a retail sales manager with over twenty direct reports at any particular time), so I was forced to move on. I felt disrespected by the entire process because they sought me out, told me how much of an asset I would be to them, and they never followed through besides one attempt; a simple phone call saying 'we've decided you are not a good fit for the company' is hard to hear but one can respect the honesty of the recruiter, dodging communication is not acceptable, and I do not want to work for a company that operates in such a manner. Warning to those who work for companies that move quickly to hire, you will not get that with Apple. Employees of the company have stated to me that Apple moves slowly on all positions and would rather wait for the perfect candidate to come (in some cases positions have remained open for almost a year). If they are interested, you should expect roughly four to five months before getting on an Apple Store team (applying for a position to accepting an offer letter). They claim they want to get it right and test your patience, which is fine and a great personality screening tool, however they're missing out on premium talent because of this business practice.
