I had applied to the position when the requisition was for an entirely different job, one for which I was better qualified. When I applied, the recruiter responded immediately saying that my background looked interesting, and what my availability was for an initial phone screen. Didn't hear back for a couple weeks. Finally, get a boilerplate email from the same recruiter with some times they had available to talk, with a job description for a different job, the title I've given here. I looked up that job and I just barely fit the bill, so I don't know why the recruiter was interested in me now.
The recruiter was about thirty minutes late in calling me. No apologies when they finally did. On the phone, the recruiter didn't seem interested in listening to my experiences and seemed more interested in listening for buzzwords/keywords relevant to the job. Asked if I had experience writing for user interfaces for software. I said no, but that I had many years of documentation and other writing experience. The recruiter finally realized that I had applied to the original job and just kind of said that the manager was looking for someone with UI experience. I wanted to ask why they called me at all because I felt like my time was wasted, but I figured it really wasn't their fault to begin with, they're just doing their job. The recruiter said that they would follow up by the end of the week, but I never heard back.
What I took away from it, was that asking the recruiter/manager to clarify what is expected from candidates/those hired into the role is crucial, because it obviously could change at any time.
