Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Mon, 7 Nov 2016
Interviewed Oct 2,016 in Teaneck, NJ (took 14 days)
I applied online about a month prior to getting a call in for a group interview. It was at a hotel remote to the actual store itself. A group of us, in my case about 20 (though I hear the numbers can swell up to 100), were told to wait while they finalized their setup. As the doors opened, we were told to grab seats as they began clapping for us, as if we already received the job. We were then seperated by table and grouped with 2 apple employees each. The employees were all managers from different stores. The evening was pretty straight forward; telling us the pros to working for apple and how our products help positively effect the world.
Then they had us do group activities. This is where you must stand out. Try to take initiative while acknowledging others. Be positive and confident in your answers, don't be afraid to say I don't know, as long as you are willing to find out. They then asked us to answer general questions about how we solved a challenging issue in the past. The interview ended and they told us that they'd give us an answer in terms of a second interview within 4 or so days.
I was called the next day for an in-store interview with another manager. The interview lasted about 20 minutes. Try to be as genuine as possible and turn every question into a story. Have fun talking. After the interview I was forwarded to another interview with the store's head manager. That went almost exactly as the previous interview except that he asked if I rather be on the sales floor or the technical side, to which I replied for he latter.
I was then told to wait for an interview with the regional manager, the woman in charge of like 5 stores. This was a group interview, but it was more like a get to know you kind of thing. At this point I already felt I had the job. At the end, she told us we'd have an answer in 5 days. After 3 I got a call back from the manager offering me the job.
*I had no referrals
*Less than one year of working experience
*I was the youngest out of each interviewing group (20 years old)
I got the general feeling that Apple screens for what kind of person you are as opposed to what kind of sales person you are.
