Average Interview – No – Fri, 14 Nov 2014

Interviewed Nov 2014 in Sydney(took 1 days)
I was invited to Apple's hiring event for theirChatswood and Broadway Store after I had applied online. I wasn't expecting to get the interview at all but I thought it was a great experience that I should share with potential readers here. To be honest I wasn't interested in being part of Apple and I The one thing I've taken away from this experience is that you should talk as much as you can without seeming overly pretentious if you know what I mean. On the day of the interview, I went along with 18 other people to the main office building, sat down and got to know the team leader, recruiting manager and store manager. They got us to fill out a a form which basically asked you what days you were available to work, the place you'd like to work in and what Apple software you knew about. The actual talky-talky interview went as follows: 1_ Selling the person next to you: In this process, you had to get to know the person sitting next to you, talk to them and then "sell" them as the best candidate for the job. You're supposed to be a sales rep so I guess this is to test how good you are in retail. The person that had to "sell" me mentioned I have an android phone which I irrationally blame for my not getting the job. I know, it's stupid of me but I'm fickle. The RM also asked us to describe a person we admired and it couldn't be Steve Jobs or someone from Apple. Other people chose political, historical figures that contributed to society and I chose a celebrity. Yes, I know. Stupid. 2_ Video time: They then showed us videos of Apple staff and statistics of sales etc. This is the time to be observant! They are testing your ability to not only have the ability to observe and remember facts but to also have the confidence to speak up. I REPEAT, SPEAK UP! Say at least one thing because they aren't testing your technical abilities so much as they are testing your personality as a retail person. I have to say that for being "humble" (their words, not mine) the videos were kind of boastful. Just saying.... 3_ Group interview and Q&A: Ok down to the nitty gritty. Here we were separted into small groups and, with one of the people observing, we had to answer question (on an iPad). Here, I advise you to look at this lovely website: http://recruitloop.com/blog/behavioural-interview-questions which I found after the interview that they might've gotten the questions from. We only had to answer two questions. After, it was Q&A time and again this is your time to speak up. They've given you a chance to ask them about the job and shine so you not do like I did and speak as often as you possibly can! Well that's all I have for you since I didn't even get the job but from what I've researched, if you pass this round then you have two other round of interviews to get through. In that respect I'm glad I didn't pass the first round. I wish you all the best!
