Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Fri, 5 Jun 2015

Interviewed Nov 2014 in New York, NY(took 7 days)
After being referred by a friend and former Apple employee, I was invited, two weeks later, to an interview at the Apple Store in Soho. I was a bit nervous about the interview, because I'd heard that Apple tends to ask bizarre, outlandish questions during job interviews (apparently, those questions are reserved for corporate employee candidates); but my friend reassured me that the interview would be a breeze if I just remained cool and collected and acted natural. The first interview was a group interview, with four other candidates. I don't think the interview took more than twenty-five or thirty minutes. The interviewer was a friendly retail specialist who asked us a mix of questions about experiences we'd had with problem-solving on previous jobs and how we would apply the skills we'd acquired in the past to a position at Apple. Once the interview got going, I was pretty confident that I would move on to the next round; I was well-prepared and -dressed, and I felt that I stood apart from the other candidates as the only woman -- and with a somewhat unconventional appearance. Turned out, I was right: The next day, I received an invitation to interview at the Fifth Avenue Apple Store the following week. I arrived fifteen minutes early; the interviewer was at least ten minutes late, and I was asked to wait another five minutes for him and his associate to prepare. Once allowed into the interview room, I found myself face-to-face with the Apple Fifth Avenue Store Manager and the flagship manager. They went back and forth, asking me questions, many of which I'd expected and some of which I hadn't. A few of the questions made me laugh, which may have been my downfall; I have a psychology degree, and so, some of the "funnier" questions seemed transparent to me. However, all in all, the interview process was quick -- no more than twenty minutes -- and to the point. I was told afterward that I'd be contacted within the next few days about whether I'd gotten the job. I didn't.
