Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 26 Aug 2015

Interviewed Apr 2015(took 120 days)
The recruiter came across my profile on LinkedIn and reached out to me for an initial phone interview at my professional email address. We had a great phone interview and she immediately scheduled me for an in person interview down in Cuppertino. I was provided car service and met with several team members over a span of two and half hours. The following week, I was asked to meet with the team manager, at a hotel in downtown SF, which I was happy to do. The manager was an hour late, as I waited in the lobby, however the interview went well and I was asked to come down for another interview the following week. Car service was again provided & I met with a senior manager, and later with two team members for another two hour session. At this point, I was informed I was their top candidate but that their search process can take several months. I let them know I was happy to wait and would check in sporadically to hear updates (if any). Two and half months from the initial interview, I left my job for personal reasons but informed my recruiter of the move. I let her know that I would no longer have access to my work email account and requested that she contact me at my personal account moving forward. We had a great conversation on the phone about my move and the search and she said she'd be in touch with updates in the next month. One month later, I'm back at my old gig doing contract work and get access to my old email account. I see that the recruiter sent an email to the deactivated account two weeks prior asking for another interview. I called her immediately and she said that since she didn't receive a response, they assumed I was no longer interested and had moved forward and made an offer to another candidate. I was devastated. What's most upsetting is that I fear I now have a reputation with that team of being a non-communicative applicant who wasn't interested in the role, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I have never had an experience with a recruiter making such a careless mistake in following up with a candidate. Overall, this was a very exciting and hugely disappointing experience.
