Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Fri, 9 May 2014
Interviewed null -1 in Cupertino, CA(took 3 months)
Made it through 2 rounds of interviews (HR and hiring manager) to get to an on-site interview. (process took many weeks in order to schedule an on-site) After the interview with the hiring manager I was given a challenge / homework assignment. I spent many, many, MANY hours perfecting my assignment / project.
Overall the interview experience was un-necessarily difficult. About 20 people showed up all at once when I was only expecting a small group at a time. It was hard to manage and engage such a large group. NO business cards or names from ANYONE....They also seemed to disregard my resume and all of my previous experiences to just focus in on the assignment they gave me. It would have been nice to connect on a more personal level with some of the team. I even saw a few of the more quiet interviewers on their cell phones during my time presenting. I was taken to a room after my presentation then waited for their answer...
Lessons learned: come prepared to present to BIG groups, a few may make a decision on you in the first few minutes (so go big early), make sure all your equipment / presentations work (you are on your own), remember what the hiring manager liked in your phone screen and stick to that.
