Difficult Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Sat, 4 Oct 2014

Interviewed Feb 2014 in Austin, TX(took 6 months)
I applied for a position with apple austin back in january of 2014. they contacted me in Feb and then sometime in march I had my first actual interview with someone about the job (the previous contacts were the vetting phone conversations - 2 of those) In all I had 14 interviews over a 6 month period. I submitted portfolio samples, code samples, and style samples. In the end I didn't get the job and it might have been because of the frustration that I was feeling in the last few weeks before the decision . It came down to two of us and they picked the other person. But I think that 6 months is WAY too long to decide a job position. for the main reason that there were 3 or 4 other positions that came along at Apple during this process that I applied for but was passed over because they had me listed 'In Process' for the other job. 2 of the other jobs were almost exactly the same position as the one that I was applying for.

Interview Questions
All in all the interviews were very easy going and I had little problem answering all the questions they had.

Easy Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Sun, 5 Oct 2014

Interviewed null -1(took 56 days)
I got interviewed for 12 positions at Apple (for over 6 months), all were very easy - - interviews were cake walk - I was always told I was not selected (no reason - even though I asked them) - people there want to spend some time so they give you call - conduct interviews & take their salary & you wouldn't be selected........ I myself corrected their questions on couple of occasions - there are many dumb & in-secured people who wouldn't want to select more competent people into the team.

Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Sun, 5 Oct 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014 in Draper, UT(took 30 days)
There was an initial phone interview, then that person set up a video conference interview. The phone interview was your normal basic interview questions. Such as work experience, why you want to work for Apple, etc. My phone agent scheduled a live video interview for me, but told me the time in the wrong time zone. As a result the interviewer had to call me to find out where I was and I ended up being 15 mins late to my interview. I was unfamiliar with the interview program they used (They used HireVue...but on the phone I was told it would be via Skype or Facetime) and as a result I had some technical issues from the start. The entire video interview process left me feeling scattered and unprepared.

Interview Questions
I was expected to simulate chat help with two different customers at once. The questions asked by those "customers" were ones I couldn't possibly answer without training.

Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Mon, 6 Oct 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014(took 14 days)
Got contacted via email (LinkedIn). Had 2 phone interviews. Very nice people, very professional. Emphasis was more on generic Computer Science questions than specific iOS APIs. Had to solve some specific questions involving efficient use of data structures. Other topics involved multi-threading, Obj-C basics, design patterns, profiling tools. At the end had a chance to ask my own questions. Not much time for this so have them ready.

Easy Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Thu, 9 Oct 2014

Initially contacted via recruiter. I'm guessing due to iOS Objective-C skills. First interview phone interview with several of the engineers I would be working with if hired. They sounded pretty stressed or overworked but were still very nice over phone if somewhat direct and to the point questions. Really went out of their way even scheduling a 2nd phone interview due to crappy phone reception on my end.

Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Tue, 7 Oct 2014

Interviewed null -1 in New Haven, CT(took 33 days)
I submitted my initial application online and heard from a recruiter five days later. The first call was a preliminary interview that asked some basic questions regarding my experience and provided me with some information regarding the positions hours, start date, and salary. The recruiter advised me she was moving me on to a second more in depth Skype/Facetime interview for further consideration and set up a time on the call. The Skype interview was set for five days later and was approximately 20 minutes long. The interview consisted of some role play questions and basic customer service questions. At the end of the interview I was told that i was being recommended to the hiring manager for a third interview and to look for an email to confirm an interview date. I received the email the next day and scheduled the interview for the following day. Third interview was also via Skype but lasted approximately 50 minutes. Much more in depth, more role playing, a lot of customer focus questions, and some basic technical support questions. The very next day the recruiter called to tell me that I was moving forward and would receive an email to complete a background check. Background check email took three days to receive and nine days for the company to complete. Five days following the background check completion I received the call from apple with the official offer. The overall process was very laid back, though I was a bit nervous. Every employee I spoke with was incredibly friendly and professional.

Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 8 Oct 2014

Interviewed Aug 2014 in Cardiff, Wales(took 21 days)
The process took roughly over a month, I put forward my details to become a specialist online and I received an email regarding a Specialist Hiring Event which was in hotel 2 minutes away from the store. When arriving at the event, you were made to sign a few sheets of paper regarding availability. You were walked into a large room where roughly 10 members of staff would clap you in until everyone had a seat around the large circle (there was roughly 30 other people applying). The interview was roughly watching videos showing what apple do, apple products and apple worldwide which lasted about half hour. The main process of the interview was to be split up into groups of 6 (roughly) and to sell an Apple service which they already didn't do and 'sell' it to the circle and staff. You were given A1 sized paper for visual presentation and was told to present in front of the room.

Interviewed Oct 2014 in Limerick, Limerick(took 9 days)
I applied online via a jobs website and the next day an Apple recruiter contacted me via Email. I was given some questions to fill out regarding my internet connection speed, office space at home, phone connection and so on. She also sent me on some more details related to the job. The next day I received another Email asking on my availability / notice period etc. A few days later I received an Email giving me details of a Skype interview with the Hiring Manager and details of another recorded technical test I had to take online with a company called HireVue. I was also given a login for the background check company HireRight to fill out. I completed the interview on Skype which took about 55 mins as the interviewer was a nice guy to talk to and we went off topic on some occasions when talking about interests outside of work etc which took the pressure off here and there. Basically the interview is very customer orientated including some scenarios such as dealing wtih an irate customer who's iPhone needs replacement etc. If you have customer support experience you will be fine. Also the usual other questions such as how you deal with stress and so on, how do you settle a dispute with a team member. Give example scenarios for everything you talk about. As I mentioned we talked about other interests, hobbies...also make sure you have the basic facts about Apple and know the names of at least 7 or 8 products. Know things like the CEO of Apple, also know things like who founded the company and the HQ address. The technical test is recorded online - you get a question on the screen and the site records your video answers. If you have basic technical knowledge you will be fine...don't worry if you can't answer some of the questions as they encourage you to finish the test anyway, this information can be thought to you in the training but good customer service comes from a personality that suits it, its hard to teach that. Finally I filled out my background check form and sent it off so I'm just waiting now to see what happens, either way if I get the job or not it was a good experience as I hadn't done a video interview before. Hope this helps someone else going for it...good luck!

Interviewed Oct 2013(took 1 days)
Applied through my university career center and got an on-campus interview. The lady who interviewed me had gone through the Financial Analyst Rotational program and read off a list of questions. While she was extremely nice and sociable, there was a disconnect in chemistry. No surprise that I did not get an offer. However, I will say that all their questions are more concerned about how well you know the company--and less about you as an individual.

Apple Apple Genius Interview

Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Fri, 10 Oct 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014(took 30 days)
I applied to an open 'Genius' position in August because of my background in customer service and computers. I got an email a few weeks later inviting me to a hiring event. The store that I applied to was about three hours away but I figured the average salary for the position would be worth it to move. So I went to the hiring event. I got some weird vibes from the manager. I dunno why. Everyone else was awesome. We filled out a short questionaire, then we watched a bunch of videos about Apple careers. Then they sat us in groups and asked some basic interview questions like "Describe a time you dealt with a difficult customer". After that the let us go home. The process was a couple hours, five hours for me if you count my drive time. Exactly two weeks later, I got an email asking me if I was available for an interview at a particular store. I confirmed I was available. Oops. I figured I would hear back with more information. I did not. I researched the store, and the ratings were not very good. I already agreed to an interview and I didn't want to blow it off for obvious reasons. But when a store has bad ratings, or just decent ratings, it usually is because of the mismanagement. It kind of sucks knowing that your wasting your time after you agree to something. I took the three hour drive anyway just to say I did it. I showed up early, and there was a huge line. The "bouncer" showed me where to wait. While doing so, I was approached by a woman whose phone would update to no end. I referred her to a real employee. Then a guy finally came and we went outside because they don't have a back room. During our interview, I would get alot of weird blank stares. It made it really weird to the point of it was hard to look at him. At the end he came to the conclusion that I was a match for a different position than what I applied for altogether. I left the store very disappointed and took the three hour drive back home. Three days later, I got a generic email that said they went with someone else. Big shocker. A couple of weeks later, I saw an opening for that recommended position, which was on an "as needed" basis. Probably minimum wage. I was really hoping I wasn't wasting my time and money. I feel a little manipulated. I think the job description could have saved us both some time. Because it was so vague, I applied to something that I shouldn't have. Now, I'm not sure I can work for a company that does this to people. The way I see it, Tim Cook owes me.

Interviewed Oct 2014(took 30 days)
Recruiter initial contacted me through LinkedIn. I had an initial phone screen with the recruiter. Then a technical phone interview with an engineer. I then had a phone interview with the hiring manager to talk more about the position and the surround group. After that they flew me out to California for several in-person interviews. I was in interviews from 1-6, each interview last about an hour and had 2 people in each. After that they decided that I would be a better fit for a different group so I had 1 more technical phone interview with an engineer, and one more phone interview with the new hiring manager.

Very Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Mon, 13 Oct 2014

Interviewed Dec 2013(took 120 days)
Interviewed in Boston for 30 min. Then 3 weeks later asked to fly to California for on site 7 hr interview. Overall very technical and ended with behavioral questions. 1 person did not show for interview. Overall it was a rewarding experience because that will be one of the most difficult interviews I will have in my life. It will prepare you for any future job interview. Apple made sure to put me up in a hotel for the entire weekend so I could get a feel for how the Cupertino area is.

Easy Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Tue, 14 Oct 2014

Interviewed Oct 2014(took 35 days)
I applied online at the beginning of September. I called two weeks later to asked whats the status on reviewing applications. The person who I talked to didn't have any clue when. About almost 5 weeks later (appromixmately 35 days to be exact) I received a phone interview from a recruiter. He asked me maybe 10 questions, both personal and business. I felt that me and the recruiter connected, mainly because we went to the same high school district and the athletics we played. That was pretty interesting. He told me that he'd give me a call later in the day after he wrapped up some more phone calls and let me know if I was selected. He called me later for an interview that was scheduled the very next day! I went to the interview dressed in business formal attire. I had an interview where there was two managers and another candidate. This interview was decent really. They asked us very general questions; why do you want to work for apple, tell me about a time where you accomplished something great, ect ect. They asked for a copy of our resume, handed them to them. The problem that I had was that the other candidate was far better off than I was; college graduate, fraternity president, business & marketing degree, and had a marketing internship. Whereas I had more work experience in a heavy customer service based industry, employee management experience, and supervisor experience. After the interview they told us that in 48 hours we would receive a call knowing what the next step would be. I felt like I nailed the interview but, 48 hours later instead of a phone call I received an email saying they picked the other candidate. I wasn't very impressed. But it was a once in a lifetime oppertunity. I just didn't understand why they chose someone who was clearly way over qualified for such a extremely low entry level position.
