Average Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014 in Cork(took 3 weeks)
I applied online 3-4 weeks ago, then I received an (unexpected) mail from a hiring manager, where she told me I could apply as Italian language technical advisor. I obviously replied positively and after an hour she called me on cell phone to ask for my availability, if I ever had an interview with Apple, and to explain by voice all the informations sent by email. After that I received a second mail where they explained the details of the interview process itself. The first step is a "technical assessment" interview using Hirevue: 30 questions, some moderately difficult, from my point of view, to easier ones, like "what happen if I increase exposure in Aperture". After having complete the first technical test, I received a mail from Hirevue where they told me that some Apple person would contact me soon. After 3 days I am still waiting for Apple actual response. I will let you know any update

Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Interviewed Jun 2014 in Cupertino, CA(took 2 weeks)
My friend submitted my resume internally and right after that I got contacted by the recruiter. We emailed and spoke on the phone. Next, I submitted writing samples and spoke with the hiring manager (phone interview); although I knew I did not have required years of experience for the position, i though the interview went well. I did not hear back for a couple of weeks so I emailed the recruiter and she answered that another candidate was chosen for the position. She did mention that the feedback from my interview was positive and that she would be happy to help me pursue other opportunities at Apple. So I asked if she could forward my resume to the recruiter responsible for another similar position and she answered that she'd try but I never heard back. A few weeks later I asked my Apple contact to submit my resume again for a similar position in a different location, but there was no answer.

Apple Creative Interview

Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Fri, 19 Sep 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014 in New York, NY(took 1+ week)
I applied for a Creative in store position online, as well as a marketing corporate position. I have 7 years experience as a graphic designer, and 4+ years experience in a senior and supervising role. I was emailed back to come in for an interview very quickly (a day or two). When I arrived, I found out it was a group interview, which I had never done before. I found quickly that I had way more working experience than the 3 other candidates, most of them in or just out of college. Each question asked then had a bit of a short roundtable of everyone answering. It only lasted 30min, total, very simple questions about work experience and Apple knowledge and appreciation. The interview went well, and only an hour after I was called and asked to come in for a second interview at a different store the next morning. I met one on one at a different location with a store manager, who asked further standard interview questions, and more about my interest in Apple. Oddly, neither the first or second interviewer had known that I was specifically brought in in regard to the Creative role, rather than a retail or customer service specialist, or otherwise. Most of the second interview was then establishing this is my area of interest. Again, shortly after the interview I was called and set up for a third interview the following week. It was at the same store, but with another head manager of the same store. A week later, I met with the manager that specifically worked with what Apple calls the Family Room Specialists, who house the Creatives. I was told after asking (because at this point no one told me the exact position I was up for) that I would be trying for a entry level Specialist position, in the Family Room area. At this point, all interviews had gone very well, but during this interview the manager seemed distracted and uninterested. I answered questions with the same enthusiasm I had previously, and articulated my years experience pertaining to the position and my high level interest in Apple, yet it didn't seem to be enough as the interview went on. This interview was also framed much more casually than the first two, with the manager asking a lot of more "fun" or personal questions, like What Do You Do For Fun, or seemingly random small talk. While I felt like I handled the third interview well, leaving, I felt immediately negative about it, judging by the way the manager presented himself and his general aloof attitude. Toward the end of the interview, he slipped in that these positions are "Very Competitive", which I took as "You are not jumping through hoops enough for me to be excited about hiring you" (He also referred to Apple as "High End Retail", which I kind of think is a bit dramatic, but that's just me). I instead tried to be very straightforward and articulate about the position and my qualifications, rather than show unbridled passion and energy about it. The position, I understood, is a lot of sit down, one on one interaction, which takes a lot of patience, which is something I was trying to demonstrate. And honestly, after 3 separate interviews, I was bit anxious and curious on what exactly else they were looking to learn about me that would be crucial to the position. One week later, after 3 interviews, all I was given was a short email saying they were pursuing other candidates. To be fair, it seemed as I was shuffled around that they didn't necessarily need new Creatives at the time in that store (Which is weird as that is what i specifically applied for in the first place), so HR might have just been handing me off to try and see if they could place me, as I had a lot of experience and technical qualifications. Every interview was only 20-30 min. I think they have this system in place for their benefit, as it is time effective for them, but not for candidates, who end up having to jump around town (at least in NYC) and re-interview until something fits, or doesn't. For all that trouble, though, it didn't seem worth it for so many repeat visits. By the third interview for an entry level position, which they literally bring people on for all the time, I couldn't see why I wouldn't have worked out for them; Maybe they saw my resume and figured I wouldn't stay long and didn't want to waste there time and resources... or maybe they didn't think I loved Apple enough for some reason, as I still only have the iPhone 4 (but three newer Apple computers). Also, the iPhone 6 was about to launch, so maybe that is just not a good hiring time for non-sales people. Either way, a sort of bloated and confusing experience to not at least get a shot.

Long process and poor communication. The process was more than 3 months. I had several rounds and more than 15 hours of interviews. Communication was sparse. Got updates only when I initiated it and after a few tries. At the end they told me position was on hold. Most of the people I met were nice and enthusiastic. A couple of interviewers that have been at Apple for a number of years seemed less enthusiastic.

Interviewed null -1 in Tel Aviv-Yafo(took 2 weeks)
I was connected by apple Israel. Their concept is making a set of 1 hour interviews, 2 at a time. The interviewer was very kind but demanding. I was well impresed from the things he told me about the company, but more than that it felt like an interview to the CIA. "this is what I can tell you", "can't tell ypu more than that" e.t.c. The interview took place at Apple-TLV.

Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, but I declined – Mon, 29 Sep 2014

Interviewed null -1 in San Diego, CA(took 4 weeks)
I applied online and then had a quick 20 minute phone interview about my background and why I wanted to work for Apple. I was invited to an in-store hiring event with 50 other people. First, we watched videos and learned more about the company. Then, we were split up into groups of 9 and answered prompted questions with an iPad (basically all of the questions are situational) I talked maybe 3-4 in the 2 hour hiring event, but was asked back for another interview. Like other people have said before me, they are looking for a type of person. The managers will tell you straight-up that they are looking for nice, intelligent people. Show them that you are relatable and can get along with almost anyone AND show them that you are paying attention to the people in your group. For the final interview, I was 1 of 4 interviewees. Again, we were asked more situational questions. The same day as my final interview, I was emailed that I needed to complete my Apple application. The next day after that I received an email from HireRight telling me that I was in the offer letter stage for Apple and they needed to do a background check. I was called 4-5 days later with a verbal offer.

Easy Interview – No – Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Interviewed Sep 2014 in Austin, TX(took a day)
I'm a mechanical engineering senior graduating in May 2015. Met Apple at a career fair at my university and they told me to drop off my resume at a separate event they would be holding on campus that Friday, which was essentially open interviews for anyone. They catered food and the event was completely casual, with three product design managers interviewing candidates. I saw a sophomore get interrupted mid-sentence and turned because he simply wasn't qualified and there was a massive line. After opening up with my own questions, making some small talk asking me about design experience and my hobbies, and bringing up relevant anecdotes from research experience, he asked me three technical questions which were extremely straightforward, answered them using knowledge taught to us about two years before in standard coursework and reiterated over the years. After nailing everything he was looking for, he wrote all over my resume, initialed HP at the top of my resume (I was told high-performer by my peers), shook my hands, and told me straight up to expect a call back. It's been over a week and a half with no contact, but I'm still hopeful for a follow-up.
