Apple Apple Store Leader Program Associate Interview

Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Mon, 16 Jun 2014

Interviewed Apr 2014 in Los Angeles, CA(took 5+ weeks)
Applied through college website and received an email saying I was selected for a phone screen. Talked to a nice recruiter about my leadership experience, what attracted me to the program, etc. Lasted about 15 minutes. Received an email with information about a preliminary background check and details about a hiring event. The hiring event lasted one day. The day began at the store where we were broken off into small groups of about 9 people. We were given a tour and a whole spiel about why Apple is such an innovative company. Throughout the tour, the person leading it posed questions to the group such as "What do you notice about the store layout?" or "What do you think makes Apple products different?" The objective is to get recognized. Speak loudly and clearly, and of course, SMILE! Later, the groups are given a scenario and asked to come up with a solution to present to everyone. Each person in the group speaks. This is really your chance to shine. While your group is brainstorming, managers will be watching you and taking notes. It is not as intimidating as it sounds. The second half of the day takes place at a hotel where they conduct a one-on-one and a one-on-two interview with managers. They asked me a lot of "tell me about a time..." questions related to leadership. There was a lot of quality talent at this event. One of my friends who got an offer is a generally cheery person and was always the first to answer questions and served as the group spokesperson during presentations. If you are a good public speaker then you are already one step ahead of everybody. In my opinion, they are looking for personality over intelligence, people who are friendly and can articulate well. I enjoyed participating even though I didn't get the gig. Oh, and the dress code wear something hip and not too formal. Most girls wore a nice blouse and some pants. Guys wore nice sweaters or button-ups.

Apple Sales Specialist Interview

Easy Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Interviewed Sep 2013 in Hartford, CT(took 1 week)
I applied online and then was invited to a recruiting event. Dress was business casual. It started out in a group interview. Eventually we were put into smaller groups to answer random questions. Questions varied from "a time when you had to lead" from "what ice cream flavor would you be". After I received a call and was invited back for a one on one interview with another manager. This one was more casual - he talked a lot about what would happen if I advanced in the interview process and gave me advice for future interviews but I was later informed that they would be continuing the hiring process with someone else...

Apple Global Supply Manager Interview

Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, but I declined – Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Interviewed Dec 2013 in Cupertino, CA(took 4 weeks)
Reached out by a recruiter, have an initial phone interview with a GSM director, and went on-site interview with 6 GSM/director. They gave me a operations manager offer, and i turned down. ANd they came back with another GSM offer, but i still turned it down. But overall, i think the experience were really great, the recruiter was very efficient, not much room for negotiation and they expected you to response back within 2 days. But i was surprised they came back with another offer when i declined the first one, and asked me to go to their campus again for a follow up interview with the new team. I feel a bit sorry that i didn't take the offer in the end..

Interview Questions
All questions were not as tough as i thought earlier. Pretty standard ones, asking about cost modeling, negotiation experience, and behavioral questions.

Apple Multitouch Sensor Algorithm Engineer Interview

Very Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 18 Jun 2014

Interviewed Jan 2014 in Palo Alto, CA(took 2+ weeks)
The recruiter initially contacted me and set me up the the inventor of the multitouch technology. The interview was very brief and it involved 8 questions and no small talk. The interviewer told me I did well on the screen and he gave me a homework to work on which I have described below. I thought I did well but according to them I didn't and they rejected me after 2 weeks. I spent a lot of time on this and I believe this is the worst possible way to reject an individual. I am NEVER going to apply to apple again in my life.

Apple Solutions Engineer Interview

Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, but I declined – Thu, 19 Jun 2014

Interviewed Jul 2013 in New York, NY(took 2+ weeks)
The interview/hiring process was more steps than I expected. I went through three phone calls and four on-site interviews with different associates each time. I wouldn't call the interviews tough. It seemed to me the interviewers were essentially making it up as they went, with little to know structure. I mean that in a positive way; I felt like I was simply having a conversation with the interviewers (one interviewer took me on a walk where we stopped in a nearby park and carried on the interview while sitting in the grass). I think their methods allow both interviewer and interviewee to gain a good understanding of each other.

Interview Questions
They throw together mock scenarios to test your critical thinking about solution generation. My questions revolved around Apple devices in an education setting. You just have to know the best device for the job and how to best implement. Go in knowing the current production line back and forth and little bit about the networking side and you won't have any trouble.

I was sent a email stating they were interested in speaking with me and for me to contact them back by phone or email. I didn't get the email for about a month and was surprised that they contacted me. I thought I had a good chance as I had experience with Apple through Arise doing chat sales for apple and had done alot of training through apple. I was very disappointed that I didn't get the job.

Apple Design Assistant Interview

Easy Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Fri, 20 Jun 2014

Interviewed Mar 2014(took 2 months)
I applied through my school because Apple was coming on campus to interview select candidates for the MarCom team based on the students' cover letters. The whole process was unnecessarily lengthy. Apple made such a fuss about their appearance at school, but in the end it was somewhat a disappointing experience. Interviewed with the head of the team. Standard graphic design interview: showing your portfolio, explaining your design decisions, answering occasional questions. Waited for 5 weeks to get a response after being assured that they'll get back to me within a week. The university relations person never responded to both my follow-up email and my school's career center's inquiries about the progress and timeline.

Apple WW Supply Demand Planner Interview

Average Interview – Overall Positive Experience – No – Sat, 21 Jun 2014

Interviewed May 2013 in Austin, TX(took 2 weeks)
1) Got HR Initial round through referral in Austin office; HR round is for 30 mins and is mainly a fit interview; Make Sure to emphasize the demand planning, cross functional and forecasting in your scenario examples. Be also ready for some technical questions on demand planning and excel formulas 2) Two 30 mins round with SD managers based in Cupertino: Started with walk through your resume and then drill down on supply chain experience and demand planning projects. Lot of follow up questions on demand planning such as how will you forecast demand of a new product or mature product or unknown product After speaking to many Apple friends it seems Apple hires people very strictly on just one skill set. It is one skill set specific hiring as Apple teams exist in silos and moving around is not expected. They will already expect you have strong demand planning work experience projects. Even though my interviews went were great I was not given offer probably due to my diversified skill set and project experiences. Apple needs specialists and avoids generalists!

Apple Senior Hardware Engineer Interview

Very Difficult Interview – Overall Neutral Experience – No – Sun, 22 Jun 2014

Interviewed Mar 2014 in Cupertino, CA(took 4 days)
Recruiter contacted me. Had a phone interview with another recruiter. After that had two technical phone interviews, one with the hiring manager and one with one of the senior hardware engineers on the team. The on site interview was pretty grueling. 8 people back to back 1 hour each. Bone up on your college level electrical engineering questions, because they will make you solve equations and draw circuits on the white board. One interviewer gave me a test to complete.

Interview Questions
Unexpected to be able to rehearse college level circuit questions (from flip flops to electromagnetism) for a senior level design position. I thought the interview would have been more about practical engineering experience versus academia.

Internship position. Applied through a school career center. Was contacted by a recruiter at Apple, who was very polite and professional. I went in for the interview in person and my interviewer was not too prepared for the interview, he didn't even have a room ready. No problem though, we found a room in a jiffy, and proceeded with the interview. The engineer was pretty exhausted from a recent trip overseas, but still conducted the interview.

Interview Questions
List Maxwell's equations. I didn't have them memorized, so that didn't go too well.

Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Interviewed Jun 2012 in Greenville, SC(took 3 months)
The initial response to the application takes about 2 months with an email. Then they ask do you meet the requirements. The first interview is a phone interview followed by another phone interview asking you to tell them what empathy is. Then they ask why you are a good fit. Then another phone interview with similar questions. Finally is a Skype or FaceTime interview where they ask you basic questions about your history and your plans for Apple.

Interview Questions
There is none. All of it is general since the person hiring you is sitting at home and has no idea what to ask besides general questions.

Apple Recruiting Coordinator Interview

Difficult Interview – No – Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Interviewed null -1(took 4 weeks)
I was referred to the job opening through a recruiter I knew, and soon got an email from the hiring manager to set up a phone interview. The phone interview is only about 30 minutes and that happened the week we got in touch. The following week I did an on-sight interview. They are 2-3 hours depending on the style of the hiring manager. Generally you meet with 2-3 other coordinators every 30 minutes for the 2-3 hours and have a series of group interviews. At the end, you usually wrap up with the hiring manager. During the interview they gave me a few scenarios where you must prioritize tasks you are given. They ask about your organizational style, work experience, scheduling experience, etc. It took a little over 2 weeks to hear back that I didn't get a second interview.

Interview Questions
I think the most difficult thing about these types of interviews is having to answer the same questions over and over and trying to keep your answers sounding exciting and interesting everytime. The questions they asked weren't very unusual for the job.
